Exhibitions

Ninth Street Independent Film Center presents creative programming throughout the year – providing affordable exhibition screening space for independent filmmakers and collaborative exhibition opportunities for the local arts community. Go to our complete Event Calendar to find out more about individual events at Ninth Street.

@ NINTH STREET
Promoting diverse voices in media, Ninth Street presents special screenings and forums that bring together our seven partner organizations, and an impressive array of media arts professionals, to participate in collaborative, culturally distinct programming. World renown exhibitors such as the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, Frameline and the Center for Asian American Media present work at Ninth Street in an intimate, close-up-and-personal setting.

MediaART
The MediaART series invites artists from other disciplines to present their work in relationship to the moving image. Hosting a wide array of local artists, exceptional experiences have been cultivated through MediaART, such as collaborations with Motion Pictures a collective of dance filmmakers who ushered in the local dance community (leading to the first annual San Francisco Dance Film Festival). Capitalizing on our ability to collaborate and develop community with the larger arts community, Ninth Street inspires connection between multi-disciplinary arts, thereby serving a broader group of artists.

FILMMAKER EVENTS
Artists are given the opportunity to screen work publicly in a professional environment at Ninth Street Independent Film Center. Our Screening Room hosts film festivals, launch parties, fundraisers, test screenings, and more – all fundamental to the filmmaking process. To ensure the Screening Room is truly accessible to independent media artists, our public Space Rentals are possibly the best deal in town.

Just a smattering of the various independent filmmaker events include: The monthly Magic Bus Movie Night, showcasing music-related, rarely released films; a work-in-progress with filmmaker Tiffany Shlain for the upcoming film Connected; and community-based film festivals such as the 7-Day Film Festival, the San Francisco Women’s Film Festival and the New York-based Media that Matters Film Festival.
