These are eight indispensable media arts organizations bringing the daring visions of independent filmmakers to the public. From grassroots beginnings over two decades ago to current international renown, our programs and services have set the standard for providing the resources, support, and exposure crucial to motion picture artists working outside the mainstream.

Now, in an innovative partnership, we have joined together to have our own building. The result is the Ninth Street Independent Film Center—a permanent home for San Francisco and the Bay Area’s independent film community.

Ninth Street is generously funded by the following supporters: The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Nonprofit Space Capital Fund, Walter and Elise Haas Fund, The James Irvine Foundation, The Annenberg Foundation, Columbia Foundation, the City of San Francisco, the National Endowment for the Arts, ArtHouse/Emergency Rent Subsidies Program, The Kanbar Charitable Trust, California Arts Council, Grants for the Arts/San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund, Fleishhacker Foundation, The Koret Foundation, Wells Fargo Foundation, Gaia Fund, Theophilus Foundation, San Francisco Arts Commission, Pacific Pioneer Fund, San Francisco Foundation, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, The Wallace Alexander Gerbode Foundation and the generous gifts of other individuals, corporations and foundations.
